The Journey of Rob and Steve DeStefano

Welcome to the world of White Oak Studios, where the legacy of wood meets the finesse of craftsmanship. At the heart of this creative venture are brothers Rob and Steve DeStefano, two visionaries who transformed their lifelong passion for woodworking into a full-fledged art form.

About

From the bustling streets of New York to the intricate designs of their workshop, their story is one of transformation – from high-tech careers to the hands-on world of artisanal woodworking. Join us as we unfold the layers of their journey and the genesis of White Oak Studios.

1

The Foundation

Growing up, Rob and Steve were immersed in the world of residential construction, cabinetry, and fine carpentry. Their weekends and summers were spent learning the trade, guided by the rhythmic hum of saws and the scent of fresh wood shavings. This early exposure wasn’t just a way to pass time; it laid the groundwork for a lifelong passion.

2

Diverging Paths

After college, the brothers ventured into different, yet complementary fields. Rob delved into the corporate world, becoming a bank executive with a keen focus on technology and accounting. Steve, on the other hand, embraced the digital era, excelling as an application developer and programming instructor. Their careers were successful, but deep down, the call of woodworking never faded.

3

The Pivot

The decision to leave their established careers wasn’t made lightly. It was the culmination of years of dreaming, planning, and the realization that joy comes from doing what one loves. The brothers took early retirement as a leap of faith, turning their hobby and true passion into a full-time endeavor.

White Oak Studios

White Oak Studios was born from this bold move. Here, the brothers combine their technical acumen with their artisanal skills. The studio, named after the sturdy and timeless white oak, symbolizes strength and longevity – values that are deeply ingrained in every piece they create.

5

The Art of Live Edge

Rob and Steve found their niche in 'Live Edge' woodworking, a style that respects and highlights the natural beauty of wood. They believe that each tree tells a story, and their craftsmanship aims to narrate this tale through each unique piece. From river tables to custom signs and exotic carvings, their creations are testaments to the tree’s raw beauty and the brothers' skill.

Beyond the Woodshop

Rob and Steve’s journey is about more than transforming wood. It's about transforming lives. Each piece crafted in their studio isn’t just a furniture item; it's a part of someone’s home, a piece of their story. The brothers take pride in knowing that their handiwork becomes the backdrop for countless family memories.

"Rob took my needlepoint canvas and turned it into the most beautiful serving tray that is now displayed as a focal point on my coffee table.  Rob did such a phenomenal job in creating this one-of-a-kind tray, that the designer of the needlepoint canvas, Kate Dickerson, is now showing it off on her website. I have now recommended White Oak to a number of fellow stitchers as the 'go to finisher' for all their woodwork needs."

"I was instantly drawn to the quality of the craftsmanship of the products displayed for sale. I purchased an American Flag cutting board that is a work of art in my home. I subsequently commissioned Rob and Steve for a memorial piece as a Christmas present for my son this year. They diligently worked together with me and I received it just before this Christmas. It far exceeded my expectations, and everyone is in awe of it!"
